Tieri - A top little town, community spirit and celebrations
There is something about small towns that you just don't get anywhere else - strong community spirit, amazing genuine people and connection, you get out what you put in and Tieri is a town full of amazing community minded people.
Established in 1983, Tieri was built to support the mining operations of Oakey Creek Coal, 40 years later the town continues to thrive. The occasion was marked with multiple celebrations, including a 'walk through the decades', a pop up shop in town created by the events team and locals, filled with photos, memories, sports and community achievements. Historian Ray Christison also wrote a book, 'A Top little town' that commemorates the towns history.
The celebrations kicked off with an offical opening, a school fete, Billy Cart Derby/design competition, Box Car Derby for the kids, and morning markets. There was also an open air cinema night, Australia's biggest morning tea (that raised $4000 for cancer research), Trivia, Golf and finished with Music on the Field which included performances from local artists as well as The Angels and Dragon, fireworks closed out the event and concluded the end of the 40 year celebrations.
Congratulations to the organising team for a successful event and for recognising the people and their memories that make these small towns such fantastic places to live. Thank you for supporting local business, it was an honor to be able document this event - small town community spirit really is something to be treasured!
Congratulations Tieri!

Market Day and Box Car Derby
Lions Park, Tieri - Market Stalls, face painting, petting zoo, kids rides and some serious Box Car racing made for a fun family day out.

Tieri Bar and Grill Evening
Official visitors and Oakey Creek employees enjoyed amazing food, a Tieri Tangle (cocktail) or two and great night celebrating.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea
The weather was perfect, the decorations and hats were fabulous and the guests were treated to a delicious morning tea. The silent auction and blind raffles were so much fun with all prizes donated by local businesses. A job well done and very much needed funds raised going towards helping the cancer council and hospital.

Music on the Field
Everyone enjoyed this event, held at Tieri football grounds - local musicians Ramstone and Anna Farquhar started off the event followed by The Angels and Dragon - the vibe was rocking and the crowed was buzzing. Tieri Pirates ran the bar, the Billy Carts, although unable to officially race were epic and the designs impressive! Local families and the community celebrated together and ended the night with a bang, impressive fireworks signalled the end of the event and of the 40 year celebrations.
